I am a Dreamer.  Who am I you ask?  I am Wayne Abbott.  I am a Christian.  I aspire to the best of my ability to imitate the example Christ left us to follow.  I am an honorably discharged U.S. Navy Veteran of eight years.  I am a Student of life both academically, spiritually, metaphysically, and scholarly.  I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa.  I am a Gamer.  I play characters in role-playing games both online and tabletop when I can find a group to join.  Along with Role Playing, I play various computer and console games.  I am an Information Technology Professional and multimedia specialist.  I am trained to be a Professional Photographer, which is now a hobby, but was my job for about five of the eight years I spent in the Navy.

In 36 years of life, I have lived in nine different states, two Countries other than the US, and moved more times than I can or care to count.  I was born in Warrensburg, Missouri.  We promptly moved to Anchorage, Alaska then to Aurora, Colorado, for the first time.   After many moves around Aurora, Colorado, and a short stay in Seattle, Washington, in between them, we settled in Elizabeth, Colorado for the last half of my Sixth grade year and the first half of my Seventh grade year.  During Christmas Break, we moved to Oahu, Hawaii, where I spent the rest of Seventh grade and the first part of Eighth grade.  Again, over Christmas Break, we moved back to Aurora, Colorado, where I finished Eighth grade and Ninth grade.  During summer break, we moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where I finished High school and joined the Navy.

Once I joined the Navy, I was off to Great Lakes, Illinois for Navy Boot Camp and Airman Apprenticeship training.  From there I went to NAF Atsugi, Japan, and HSL-51 for my first command.  While there I was a glorified janitor, tool room clerk, Line Rat (other wise known as Plane Captain), and sometimes Helicopter mechanic.  After this, I left for Fort George G. Meade, Maryland for Photographers Mate ‘A’ School.  After learning the basics of Film and some Digital Photography, I went to my second, but first Photo Command at NAS JRB Fort Worth, Texas.  (Yes, I know where’s the water?)  I then transferred to NS Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where I was the only Photographer’s Mate assigned to the base.  After this, I went back to Fort Meade, Maryland, for training as a Digital Multimedia Specialist.  This training I took to Port Hueneme, California and NMCB 3.

After eleven months there, I separated from the Navy, and headed home, to Hugo, Colorado.  Home only because that is where my parents were at the time.  Here I started working at Travel Centers of America, a year and a month too long.  I also bought a house, which was a mistake, but it went into foreclosure and is now owned by someone else, and out of my life.  Oh well, mistakes happen, but as long as we learn from them, they are okay.  I stopped working full time at TA, and headed for La Junta, Co.  Here I started full time college; it was a great three years, with only one semester with two classes left.  Basically, I started in the Spring of 06 and finished Spring of 09 when I Graduated on May 2nd, 2009 with my Associates of the Arts.

I also completed four certificates in, Computer Hardware Maintenance & Support, Computer Support Technician, Microsoft Network Administration, and Web Development, and an Associate of General Studies.  School has been great, but it is going by so fast, and at first, I was not sure what I was going to do after it was over, but I am now starting to work on my Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration through Adams State College with some help from OJC.  I have taken a break from school to pay off student loans. I have now worked for SECOM in La Junta, Colorado as a Network Technician since May of 2011.

I am an avid sci-fi/fantasy reader, writer, and watcher.  I have always enjoyed the picturesque language used in sci-fi/fantasy.  I read different types of sci-fi/fantasy; currently I have been exploring the sub-genre of Christian Sci-Fi/Fantasy.  Some of these authors are Bryan Davis, Karen Hancock, Stephen Lawhead, and of course C.S. Lewis, and J.R.R. Tolkien.

When I read a book, I become so involved in it that I lose track of the world around me.  I often find myself putting voices to the characters, trying to match their looks to people in the real world, and anything else that makes it more personal and interesting.  I really enjoy authors that spend a lot of time painting the picture with their words, the more descriptive the better, as long as it doesn’t take away from the story.  As a role-player and or game master, this is important to me, for the last few years most of my gaming has been online through text-based games via play by post, play by email, or play by chat/IM.  Therefore, I have to be very descriptive to properly get across the picture I see in my head.

I am also a veteran of 8 years in the U.S. Navy, during which I worked on helicopters for three years and then was a Photographer for 5 years.  I truly enjoyed both, but the photography was a lot better in my opinion.  I helped Otero Junior College and the CCC Online community in starting our own little island in Second Life.  For those who don’t know what it is, I would say it is a Virtual Social Networking area like myspace or facebook and the like on steroids.  If you are curious, go to http://www.secondlife.com.  It is free to join, plus there is a lot of extra stuff to do, in the world.
